How Simon Spero Built a Business Around Better Service
Simon Spero, owner of Sandy Creek Laundromat & Laundry Service in Colorado Springs, Colorado, didn’t set out to buy just any business. After years working in consulting and technology, he realized he wanted something different—something he could build, improve, and truly call his own.
As he explored different opportunities, Simon found himself drawn to businesses that provided a tangible service rather than another technology venture. “I’ve spent a fair amount of time in filthy dark laundromats that were poorly maintained. I convinced myself that I could run an extremely clean and modern operation better than any of the existing players, so I decided to give it a shot.”

Today, Sandy Creek Laundromat serves families, busy professionals, and local businesses throughout the Colorado Springs area with self-service laundry, Wash & Fold, Pickup & Delivery, and commercial laundry services.
Visitors quickly notice what makes Sandy Creek different. The facility is bright, clean, fully attended, and designed with amenities like a kids’ play area, free Wi-Fi, and TVs, making laundry day a little more enjoyable.
That commitment to customer experience has paid off.
“We get comments from customers all the time telling us it’s the cleanest laundromat they’ve ever seen, and they can’t believe how quickly their clothes get done. We have some of the fastest machines in the industry, so it only takes about 45 minutes to wash and dry at Sandy Creek Laundromats, whereas most other laundromats would be over an hour.”
Building the Right Team
As Sandy Creek has grown, Simon says one of the biggest lessons has been the importance of surrounding yourself with the right people. Building a strong team has been one of the most rewarding and challenging aspects of growing the business.
“One bad employee can really affect the productivity and morale of the entire staff. Once we finally made a change, the improvement across the team was immediate.”
Simon also discovered that finding reliable vendors and contractors could be just as important as hiring great employees.
Rather than seeing these obstacles as setbacks, he viewed them as opportunities to build stronger relationships with people who genuinely care about doing quality work. Those experiences have shaped the way he leads his business today.
Turning Data Into Better Decisions
Like many business owners, Simon believes good decisions start with good information. As Sandy Creek grew, he wanted financial reporting that wasn’t just accurate for tax purposes, but useful for running the business every day.

Simon says,

Simon continues to invest in new ways to serve customers throughout Colorado Springs.
Recent growth has included expanding pickup and delivery service to Fort Carson, one of the largest military installations in the country, while continuing to grow Sandy Creek’s commercial laundry business.
He’s also exploring new technologies, including automated detergent dosing systems that improve efficiency and consistency for commercial customers.
While the business continues to evolve, Simon remains focused on the same goal that inspired him to buy the laundromat in the first place: creating an experience that customers genuinely appreciate.
